MCC Spring Open House returns April 26

The Spring Open House is coming back to Montcalm Community College’s Sidney campus on Saturday, April 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Organized by Admissions Representatives Taryn Muilenburg and Kayla Beckett, it’s a time for anyone to visit campus and have fun while exploring what MCC has to offer.
“There is no set itinerary for the day and participants are welcome to explore the campus at their leisure, attend the presentations or engage in any of the fun activities throughout the day,” Muilenburg said.
Attendees will get to take a guided tour of campus; participate in presentations on admissions, athletics, advising and financial aid; talk with faculty; use the college’s pool during open swim time; and play games in the Woodside Café. Plus, if you register in advance, you will be entered into a drawing for a $500 scholarship and you will receive a voucher for free lunch during the event from the food trucks.
“For this event, we are really focusing on what attendees need to know to become a student at MCC,” Muilenburg said.
“This format allows for anyone, even community members, to come out and have fun while seeing what MCC offers,” Beckett added. “Our rural college campus, with its calm atmosphere, is unique to our area and it can appeal to a lot of people, including those who come from more busy, urban areas.”
“We want students to feel the MCC culture and have the freedom to see what they want to see and enjoy the festivities,” Muilenburg said. “We don’t want people to feel like they’re missing out on anything if they’re not there at a certain time.”
In the same vein, participants will not be limited by the 1 p.m. end time of the open house to experience the fun at MCC, as open swim will be open until 4 p.m.
“They’ll get a wristband if they came to the open house to get into the pool for free,” Muilenburg said. “So we’re extending open swim and we’re making it free for guests. If they need to go home and come back, they could even do that and be able to swim until open swim ends.”
While it wasn’t their intention, the schedule of activities featured at the Spring Open House has morphed into a carnival atmosphere and Muilenburg is expecting an unforgettable day of fun. Activities that will be featured include an Alpaca petting zoo, cornhole, ladder ball, giant chess, ping pong, swimming in the pool and more. There will be three different food trucks available for the Spring Open House — C and J Concessions, Grumpy’s and Who Doesn’t Like Pizza.
“It’s not necessarily that we meant to make it like a carnival but it kind of organically happened that way,” Muilenburg said. “We truly do want the students to know that we aren’t like other colleges, we are a lot of fun.”
Registration to the Spring Open House is encouraged but not required. Visit montcalm.edu/open-house for more information and to register.
