Centurion men win Jackson Tournament, women’s team fourth

 

The Centurion men’s bowling team continued their hot start to the year with their first tournament win of the season on Friday, January 17, at University Lanes in Albion. 

In a tournament hosted by Jackson College, the Centurions placed first out of five schools with a team total of 4,322 pins. They narrowly edged Jackson College, which finished in second place with 4,304 pins. 

The MCC men’s team started out well, with combined individual scores of 969, 1,003 and 982, followed by baker block games of 344, 386 301 and 337. Freshman Jack McBride led the Centurions with a three-game series of 612, bowling games of 185, 222 and 205. Freshman Joey Gonzalez bowled the highest individual game for the Centurions with a 231 in game No. 2. 

The Centurions women’s team would finish fourth out of five teams at the tournament with a total score of 2,997 pins. Jackson College finished first in the women’s tournament with a total score of 4,167 pins. 

The women’s team started with combined game scores of 711, 524 and 643, followed by baker block games of 257, 271, 267 and 315. Individually, the Centurions were led by sophomore Zoey Guernsey (Ionia, Mich.), who had a high series of 495, bowling games of 211, 121 and 163. Guernsey was one of five women to bowl a game of 200 or higher during the tournament. Freshman Madyson Hartman finished just behind Guernsey with a series of 481. 

The bowling teams will continue their season on Friday, January 24, at M-66 Bowl in Battle Creek during the Kellogg Community College Invitational.
